Dubai Municipality launched an awareness initiative at Universal Design Week to implement codes, rules and regulations for contractors, so when buildings are designed in Dubai they are easily accessible and habitable for children, the elderly and the impaired in a campaign named ‘Because We Care’.
Dubai Municipality asked us to bring the guidebook to life and educate visitors and instil a sense of importance concerning the new rules and regulations for contractors.
We decided that, in order to speak to everyone, we should create pop-up environments in a language visiting architects, designers, engineers, and individuals with zero knowledge of construction could appreciate. By combining 3D objects with flat graphics, we created a space that brought the blueprints to life in a universal visual language to educate visitors about the hardships certain members of society may have to endure.
Dubai Municipality had, in total, seven exhibitions showcasing their products and rules for ‘people of determination’ at Universal Design Week. Their impetus to educate on the details of day-to-day safety and hospitality was of primary concern.
Therefore, we designed the individual blueprint pop-ups to contain the actual measurements of the new rules, as well as interesting imagery that created relatable real-world scenarios. Bringing together these elements resulted in an attractive installation that could visually educate individuals, whatever their profession.
